What does it take to be "content"?

Was money the first thing that popped into your head?  wrong answer...was doing your own thing?....wrong answer....how about being famous?...wrong answer!  At least wrong when it comes to true contentment.

How about, knowing that you are doing the right thing when no one is patting you on the back...or being "famous" in your family because they just love you and appreciate you for who you are....or doing things for others even when it sometimes seems like you really would rather be off and running.  All things to think about.

Money comes and goes in life, and some people are only around when you have it and when you are "broke" those friends have disappeared.  Doing your own thing can be great for a season, and then it gets real lonely.  Being famous, well it doesn't take too much to figure out that one day the "famous" are up there and next time you think about them they aren't so famous anymore.

So what does it mean to be content?  Well you know we always get the right answer from one source, the bible.  Here is something to think about today.

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
Hebrews 13:5  (NIV)

Who's looking?

Don't we always wonder who is watching, especially when we've had one of those oops moments?

This could be about what you are wearing, like you "thought" the colors matched, but....  you have two color shoes - same style, and you wore one of each... just cover up with a great attitude and a smile, especially if anyone says anything.....laughter is the greatest way to work past these moments.

Or those times when you are driving and you "thought it was your turn to  go" and realize....it was their turn!  It's all about poise, just smile, no hand gestures, and hopefully none coming your way...like the "hands in the air", "the banging on the steering wheel", or the "whatever" attitude. Granted we all have these moments, but let's remember, we are being watched and it's not about being right, just being kind!

And don't let the mirror constantly call you "everytime" you pass a window or mirror in the store.  Really, just be yourself and be joyful, the compliments will come whether it's on how you look for the day or on your attitude.

It's all good and all a continual learning curve.  Just follow Jesus and hopefuly others will do the same, as they watch you.

Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth...a stranger, not your own lips.
Proverbs 27:2 (NLT)

Something to think about

Ever been in a "blue" mood, just not sure what is going on, if it's the weather, the job, school, or relationship issues?

Today I had a thought that helped me pull out of one of those moods.  Yes, I actually get them too!

A scripture read at church yesterday came to mind and as I meditated on it, things began to look better and better.

Very simple, its about giving.  Not necessarily money, but just giving.  When we truly examine ourselves, how much do we think about giving to others like we think about being given something?

What helped me and maybe will help you too is I began to think of all the people in my life that could use encouragement and a kind word, so I began acting on that thought and gave out as many blessings as I could think of.  Thinking that when I get kind words or encouraging words, it makes me feel really good and ready to "take on whatever situation needs to be taken on" with the strength that only comes from the Lord.

So, I'm just saying, if you are in one of those "blue" moods, start giving to others what you would like to have in your life.

You'll not likely go wrong here if you keep remembering that our Master said, "You're far happier giving than getting".  Acts 20:35 (Message)

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.  Avoid all perverse talk, stay away from corrupt speech.
Proverbs4:23-24 (NLT)

Guarding your heart is something that only you can do.  No one else, no matter how much they love you, can do this for you.  God has told you to do this.  Does this make you stop and ask, "How can I do this?"  Probably most people who are young ask this question and may find it hard to get the right answer.  We know that the only place to get the answer is in the Bible. So what does the bible say about this?

For one thing this verse tells you to "avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech". Also the bible says out of the abundance of your heart your mouth speaks. So, what you say has a big impact on how you are to guard your heart.  Don't hang out with those that have evil to say about others, who are always putting people down, talking behind the backs of people who may trust them,  and being disrespectful of those older then themselves.  Actually being disrespectful of anyone is not acceptable.

To make this really easy, watch who you hang with, don't let peer pressure put you in a crowd that is not living the way you want your life to go. Watch what you listen to, because that is what ends up in your heart and then when you speak that is what comes out.

It's a big job to make right choices, but the rewards are much bigger when you make right choices.  Believe it or not, you can actually walk away from a bad conversation, try to change the subject or just make the choice, this is not the crowd that's best for you.

This is how you guard your heart!

What is the Key to added Years?

Dear friend, take my advice; it will add years to your life.  I'm writing out clear directions to Wisdom Way.  I'm drawing a map to Righteous Road.  I don't want you ending up in blind alleys, or wasting time making wrong turns.  Hold tight to good advice; don't relax your grip.  Guard it well -- your life is at stake!  Don't take Wicked Bypass; don't so much as set foot on that road.  Stay clear of it; give it a wide berth.  Make a detour and be on your way.  Proverbs 4:10-15 (the Message)

Wow that was some advice.  But it comes direct from the One who knows and He wrote it to us in His love letter, the Bible, so we could make some good choices.

Actually I don't know anyone young or old that doesn't want to add years to their life.  The key is what kind of years are they going to add.  Life has an ultimate purpose, so when you find out what your purpose is you will be able to make the right choices.  So many just seem to wander around, wanting to know, but not taking the time to ask the only One who can give them clear direction.

Suggestion:  Take the time, because if you don't you won't have any time, and ask, "What is my purpose" and then ask Him to show you the way.  Next step....make the decision to follow what the Lord tells you and don't try the shortcuts, they just lead back to where you left the path and you still have to continue through some hard times to get to the good times.  That's what life is all about.  No easy way to the life that is best for you...but totally worth it.

Right   -  Just   -  Fair

The bible is a "manual for living, for learning what's right and just and fair; to teach the inexperienced  the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality.  There's something here also for seasoned men and women, still a thing or two for the experienced to learn - Fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate, the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women."  Proverbs 1: 2-6 (the Message)

With school almost out, I am sure many are thinking about what you did or did not learn this past year.  Whether it is Jr. High or College, every year presents new challenges and new information.

One text book that never changes, age to age, that even a child can understand when taught to them; The Bible.  Many have tried to get rid of it, burn it, prohibit it, hide it or even ignore it.  But it's still around and always will be, a promise from the Lord.  Why not take some time and if you haven't read it lately, try it.

This insight on the very basics:   Learning what is right, just and fair.  Really, can't we all use that in our lives?  Yes we can.  And it's the only way to truly succeed.  So, yahoo for the graduates, the grades and the diplomas, but loud cheers for the Word of God.  Together, you will be a winner and know what is right, just and fair.
